22.09.11 The Senior XV finished the leagus stage of the Leinster Senior Shiel with a 29-20 win over Greystones. This was by far our most challenging fixture this season and although the result was never really in doubt, the hosts maintained the challenge throughout the game. Indeed with three tries apiece the match was ultimately decided on penalties.  With four wins out of four we are clear section winners and will play Naas in the quarter final.

18.09.11 Over the weekend the Junior 2 and Junior 3  teams enjoyed victory in friendly fixtures. The J3s beat neighbours Bective Rangters 19-10 whilst the J2s played a one sided match against CYM winning 76-0.  Meanwhile the Under 21s lost narrowly to Super Six side Lansdowne, the final score 0-7.

21.01.11 The J2 team kept the best until last scoring a try and conversion with two minutes to go to beat Blackrock and reach the O'Connell Cup Final.  Blackrock made the early moves scoring a penalty and then a try from a quick tap penalty to lead 8 nil after ten minutes.  However Wesley responded well with a try by Brendan Phelan following some good handling and a Ronan O'Donovan penalty to draw level, and there the score remained until half time. Both sides exchanged penalty goals to leave the score at 14 all with twenty minutes to go.  As full time approached it looked like extra time was on the cards.  However the Wesley pack put good pressure on the oppositon and were nearly over before a classic back line movement saw Ross Johnson cross to take the lead.  O'Donovan, who had a fine game with the boot, nailed the difficult touchline conversion and there was no way back for 'Rock.  Final score Old Wesley 21 Blackrock 14. We now play the winners of Clontarf and Coolmine in the final on Friday 29th April.

16.04.11 In the O'Connell Cup the J3s had a dream start when Brendan Phelan crossed for a try within a minute of kick off. Old Wesley dominated for most of the match but were denied any further tries due to poor handling and some questionable decision making. However 3 penalties by Ronan O'Donovan was enough to see of Malahide, winning 16-7. We now meet Blackrock in the semi final.

15.04.11 The J3s were narrowly beaten 20 -17 by Lansdowne in the Moran Cup Final at Donnybrook. Lansdowne took the early lead and led for most of the match. However an Old Wesley try with ten minutes to go drew the sides level and it looked as if extra time would be required. However Lansdowne struck with a late drop goal to seal victory. Old Wesley's two tries were scored by Ross Johnson with Richie Thompson kicking two conversions and a penalty.

12.04.11 Gentile this wasn't as an Old Wesley team took on Clondalkin in the Fox Cup Over 35s competition. A number of times the ref had to go for his pocket punishing both sides in a hard fought game at Donnybrook. Surprisingly both teams tried at times to play open rugby including many tap penalties. However it was Clondalkin who looked the less rusty and took the honours. The names of many of the Old Wesley players shall remain anonymous for fear of being found out by their employer, life assurance company, doctor or even their wife. However the honour of oldest swinger went to Robby May who is still clinging on by a thread to his forties. Final score Old Wesley 22 Clondalkin 31

07.04.11 The J3s ground out a hard fought semi final win over DLSP in the Moran Cup. This team, who have not lost a match all season, will play Lansdowne in the final.

05.04.11 The Under 21s will rue missing a number of penalty kicks to be beaten 13-14 by DLSP in the Purcell Cup quarter final.  DLSP were the stronger and more alert team in the first half and lead 11-3 at half time. Wesley looked like they could win looking the fitter in the second half as they led 13-11 going into the last ten minutes. However DLSP picked a penalty goal and held on to win despite a last gasp long range Wesley penalty falling agonisingly short.

01.04.11 While the seniors were having a torrid time at Donnybrook the J3s got on with their business by beating Greystones 13-3 to reach the semi final of the Moran Cup

24.03.11  The Under 21 Purcell Cup XV were fortunate to beat a spirited Skerries side and advance to the next round of the Purcell Cup.  Wesley scored three trys in a fast open game through Ian Masterson, Richard de Courcy and Tom Emo.  Final score 25 - 22.

20.03.11 The J1s were beaten 33-27 by Clontarf in the first second round of the Metro Cup. However the result represented a considerable inprovement in performance compared to earlier heavy league defeats against the Northsiders.

11.03.11 The J3 League ended in undramatic fashion when Clontarf were unable to field giving Old Wesley the walkover. Hence Wesley complete the league without a loss claiming a nine match grand slam.

07.03.11 The J1s put in their biggest performance of the season to finish with a 31-20 bonus point win over Lansdowne in the league. Going into the game we were 4 points behind Bective Rangers needing the bonus point win and relying on Bective not to earn a league point in their last match against Blackrock the same night. Blackrock did beat Bective denying them any league points.  However in a cruel twist the match was declared non contested when Blackrock turned up without a front row. As a result, and under the competition rules, both teams were awarded two point each allowing Bective to move ahead of us.

07.03.11 The all conquering J3s will face Terenure in the first round of the Moran Cup on Friday 25th March.

28.02.11 Old Wesley were unable to match St. Mary's in the J1 league at Donnybrook, going down 14-55

26.02.11 Trailing 17-23 in injury time two disallowed tries denied Old Wesley what could have been a dramatic win against Queens University at Donnybrook in the All Ireland League. Click here for full report.

23.02.11 The J2s suffered a heavy defeat of 14-68 against Blackrock in the league putting a major dent in their plans to win the League. An amazing result and possibly some eligibilty questions to be asked considering just weeks earlier Old Wesley won the same fixture by a convincing 38-20

19.02.11 Trailing 26 nil after 30 minutes Old Wesley turned the game around to record a 29 all bonus point draw against Corinthians in the All Ireland League. Indeed a missed penalty in the last play of the match denied Wesley the win. Click here for full report.

18.02.11 As expected the J3s beat Trinity to secure league victory and gain promotion. Played in miserable conditions Wesley took some time to get into the game allowing Trinity to take the first points with a try after 10 minutes. However once Wesley got their first try after 35 minutes they never looked back going on to score 5 tries for the bonus point win.  The Wesley try scorers were Stu Kinlan, Shane Davey, Neil Stanley and a brace from Rob MacNaughton in the 29-12 victory.  The team can relax a little for the remaining two matches, however it would be a brave person who would bet against Wesley going on to win a Bonus Point Grand Slam.

18.02.11 Tonight the J3s take on Trinity where a draw or better will clinch the league title and promotion for next season. Having brushed aside all challengers to date earning maximum league points Old Wesley are hot favourites to win. Kick off is 7.30pm at Donnybrook.

10.02.11 The J2s ran out easy winners against CYM at Donnybrook. Wesley had the bonus point before half time and went on to score six tries winning 45-14. The win puts Wesley back to top spot in the league 5 points ahead of Bective Rangers.

09.02.11 The J3s kept their steam roller going with another bonus point win over Naas at Donnybrook. Final score 35 -0. With the league approaching its final stages Wesley are now 19 points clear of next placed Clontarf. It would take a bazaar set of unthinkable results to now stop Wesley topping the league and gaining promotion. In short, Clontarf would have to win their last 4 matches with bonus points and Wesley would have to lose all of theirs. Even Paddy Power would not consider odds on that.

04.02.11  In a very disappointing performance the Under 21 Premier side were swept aside by a highly motivated Wanderers side by 18 - 0 in the league.

31.01.11 Old Wesley J1s lost 14-26 to Blackrock under lights at Ballycorus.  An entertaining and lively game played in windy but dry and mild conditions Wesley were unlucky not to earn at least a bonus point out of this match.

30.01.11 The Under 21s Premiership side put in a well contested first half performance to trail 7-10 at half time, thanks to a Charl Schultz try. However losing Ian Cassidy and Charl Schultz either side of half time allowed the St Marys superior physicality to gain momentum and play front foot rugby. The game was still there for the winning until the last 10 minutes, but Marys scored again putting the game beyond reach. Final score 7-25.

29.01.11 Despite an early try and the sides level at half time the Old Wesley faded in the second half losing 13-19 to UCD in the J2 League

25.01.11 In the J2 O'Connell Cup draw Old Wesley got a bye into the second round where we will play CYM away, date yet to be fixed.

24.01.11 The J1s had no answer to a Belvedere rampant back line and dominant line out at Anglesea Rd.  A Dave Flower try and Barry McLaughlin conversion was all Wesley could garner going down 7-32

23.01.11 The Under 21s Premiership side delivered a fine 20-17 win in an exciting match against Terenure, however the Pennant side had no luck, being beaten 10-36 by Seapoint.

22.01.11 The J2s had a bonus point in the bag by half time before going on to easily beat Balckrock 39-20 in the league scoring six tries int eh process.

16.01.11 A late try by Barry McLaughlin earned a loser's bonus point over Dublin University in the J1 league. Earlier Wesley led 5-3 but two tries by the students put the match slightly out of reach. Final score 13-16. Meanwhile the Under 21s Premiership side also lost out by the same margin losing 6-9 to Greystones. However it was the Pennant side that flew the club flag with a fine 24-8 win over Dublin University

15.01.11 In a rare senior friendly and played in perfect conditions under lights on the all weather pitch at Lansdowne Road Wesley lost out by 12-24 to Wanderers.  Both teams choose to run the ball as much as possible resulting in an entertaining match for the spectators. For various reasons Wesley were missing quite a number of first choice players resulting in some younger players having the opportunity to show their skills. In particular Richard Jermyn and Ivan Campbell certainly did not look out of their depth at the higher level. Wesley's two tries were scored by Alan Thompson and Colin Wallace.  Meanwhile at Donnybrook the J3s delivered their now customary bonus point win, this time over neighbours Bective Rangers. Although just 5-3 up at half time they went on to finish 22-3

10.01.11 Despite a promising opening quarter involving a disallowed try and two missed penalty kicks Wesley were well beated by Clontarf in the Metro League. Clontarf's mobile back line did most of the damage however the Wesley pack, who were dominant throughout in the scrum and loose were rewarded with our only try, grounded by Colin Wallace, following sustained pressure in the final quarter of the match. Final score 5-39

09.01.11  The Under 21s Premiership team notched up a fine 41-12 bonus point win over NUIM Barnhall. Wesley scored six tries by Ian Cassidy (2), Ken MacLaughlin, Conor Boyd, Charl Shutz and Paddy Owens.  Meanwhile the Pennant team lost by the narrowest of margins to DLSP finishing 26-27

08.01.11 Trailing 13-3 at half time the Senior XV clawed their way back to 20 all against Midleton in the All Ireland League. However a last play opposition penalty goal denied Wesley the draw.  Notwithstanding the losing bonus point will be very welcome.  Full report to follow. Meanwhile in the J2 league Wesley made heavy weather of eking out a useful 14-11 win against Wanderers.

07.01.11 The J3s achieved their most valuable league result of the season with a five try win over Clontarf at a wet and cold Donnybrook. The Wesley backs regularly gained ground to create scoring opportunities.  But is was the forwards who bulldozed over for four of the tries before a consolation backs try for the icing on the cake. This result puts Wesley in a very strong league position with six bonus point wins out of six. Final score Old Wesley 30 Clontarf 3.  The try scorers were Mat Laporte (2), Trevor Farrar, Stu Kinlan and Keith Kane.

13.12.10 A red card meant Wesley were forced to play most of this match with 14 men. However the incident, which occurred 15 minutes in to the game, had the effect of spurring on the Wesley players to a 28 - 20 victory over neighbours Bective Rangers having trailed 6 - 17 mid way through the first half. The Wesley try scorers in this overdue victory were David Whatley, Aaron Campbell and Alan Large.

26.11.10 The J3s continued their winning ways with a fifth bonus point win in five matches beating Monkstown 32-18. Their next hurdle is the biggest challenge so far against Clontarf who are also unbeaten but with one less bonus point.

25.11.10  The J2s had a comfortable win over CYM in the league. We crossed the line six times to finish 36-8.  Highlight of the match was Dave Bursey's 30 metre sprint, well canter, to cross for a try.

21.11.10  It was a busy afternoon at Ballycorus. The Under 21s kicked off Phase 2 of the JP Fanagan Premiership with a 28-10 win over Greystones. However the Pennant match was cancelled and Wesley were awarded a walk over after Suttonians were unable to field a team. The J1s started well against Lansdowne in the league but were unable to match the visitors' forward dominance in the second half, losing 9-29

16.11.10  Following completion of Phase 1 of the JP Fanagan Premiership Old Wesley will compete in Section B of Phase 2. The first match is against Greystones on Sunday 21st November.

14.11.10  The Premier side never really got going in a stop start encounter against St. Marys at Templeville.  For the second week running we were beaten by a late score. The final score was 22 - 15 to St Marys.  Our scores came from Richie Jermyn (try), Gary Foxton (try), Ian Cassidy (con), Ken McLaughlin (pen).

07.11.10.  The Under 21 Premier side suffered an agonising 18 - 15 defeat to Old Belvedere with a long range penalty converted with the last kick of the game.  We scored two trys through Gary Foxton and Rob Hallam, and Ian Cassidy added a conversion and penalty goal.  The Under 21 Pennant side came up just short against a good Newbridge side at Donnybrook.  We lost 17 - 13 with our scores coming from Ian Masterson (try), Ken McLaughlin (pen, con) and Kieran Hennigan (pen).

05.11.10 The J1s were unable to match Old Belvedere going down 24-38 in the league under lights at Donnybrook. Meanwhile on the back pitch the J3s dominated their league match against RCSI winning 89-3. In doing so the J3s made it three bonus point wins out of three in their league campaign.

29.10.10 The Under 21s lost 10 - 17 to a highly rated Lansdowne side under lights at Donnybrook. In doing so Old Wesley became the first team to earn a league points against Lansdowne

24.10.10 Poor tackling proved costly for the J2s against Terenure losing by 8 - 57. Brendan Phelan scored the only Old Wesley try in a one side match.

18.10.10 The J1XV were unable to match the physicality of Clontarf in the the Metro league losing 10-37 with Stephen Walsh scoring the only try for Old Wesley

17.10.10  The Under 21s suffered double defeat to strong Trinity sides in their respective leagues at Ballycorus.  The Premier side narrowly lost out on a losing bonus point despite a great comeback late in the second half which yielded trys from Richie Jermyn and Paddy Owens.  Ian Cassidy slotted four penalties and a conversion in a 24 - 32 loss.  The Pennant side lost 37 - 14 to Trinty in the early kick-off, scoring two trys through Ian Lane and Richard de Courcy.

15.10.10  For the second week in a row the J3s produced a bonus point win, this time beating neighbours Bective Rangers 39 -10

09.10.10 The J1s lost heavily to Bective in the Metro League. Although the better team won three 3 late tries gave a somewhat flattering picture of the win. We did score four tries to earn a bonus point through Chris Coughlin, Aaron Campbell, Daragh Kelly and Derek Wallace.

03.10.10 The J1 XV put in a fine performance and were unlucky to lose out to Blackrock in the opening Metro League match. Fielding a team missing many first choice players through injury we finished 26-33 picking up a valuable loser's bonus point

18.09.10 Missing a large number of first choice players was no excuse for the a disappointing result against St. Mary' s in the Leinster Senior Cup Quarter Final.  Wesley never threatened the line and had difficulty making any inroads eventually losing 0-45 to the Divison 1A outfit. 11.09.10 Trailing by 15 points with 10 minutes remaining the opposition, Lansdowne, looked to be well and truly home in the Leinster Senior League Cup. However an opportunist try by Rob Dempsey and a well engineered try finished off by Alan Large, both converted put Old Wesley within a point. With just a minute of time remaining Wesley kept the ball alive before Alan Large slotted a magnificent penalty kick from a metre inside his own half. Brian Hastings had scored a try on 20 minutes then Lansdowne dominated the second and third quarters of the match before the dramatic finale.  Final score 27 - 25.  The win means Old Wesley qualify for the quarter finals for the first time in the history of the competition in its current format. Next up St. Mary's. Meanwhile in the Senior Seconds competition the match followed a similar pattern but a knock on in the last play of the match denied Old Wesley an opportunity of a draw. Final score 27 - 34

03.09.10 The Seniors were well beaten 30 - 8 by AIL Division 1A side Blackrock at Donnybrook.  Trailing 25 - 3 at haf time Wesley lifted their game in the second half.  Refusing a number of opportunities to kick for points Wesley's patience and perciverance was eventually rewarded with a Phil Hosie try with 15 minutes to go however it was not enough to cause any damage as the visitors had the final say with a try on full time.

28.08.10  Old Wesley kicked off the new season with a win over neighbours Bective Rangers at Donnybrook in the Leinster Senior League Cup. David Smith's try in the second half ensured victory, final score 22 - 11.

24.08.10 The Under 21s, playing this year in the JP Fanagan Premier League, will open their campaign with an away fixture against Wanderers on 10th October.  Meanwhile the J2 Metro league will kick off on 25th September against Stillorgan at home. 04.06.10 Ireland's loss to the Barbarians means that Old Wesley retain their unique record of being the only Irish team, at any level, to have beaten the Barbarians on Irish soil. Old Wesley won the famous match in September 1991 when Adrain Hawe slotted one of the sweetest drop goals ever witnessed at Donnybrook to clinch a 37 : 36 win. Looks like we may retain the honour for another while yet.

However in the final play Monkstown crossed to win 15 - 12

21.03.10  Old Wesley put in a storming second half performance to overcome Trinity and reach the Under 21 Pennant final.  We scored three trys through Stephen O'Leary, Phil Timmins and Shane Deignan.  Barry McLaughlin kicked a long range penalty and Ian Cassidy kicked the remaining points. 28.02.10  Congratulations to our Gale Cup team who captured the Harry Gale Cup by beating Mullingar 19-7 in a tough battle on a heavy pitch at North Kildare.  This is Old Wesley's first Leinster Branch trophy since 2003 and the first time the club has ever won a Leinster Branch competition at this, or previous Under 20s or 19s, level .  Victory resulted from a great team effort particularly in defence in the second half when we repelled everything Mullingar could throw at us.  The heavy pitch did not favour our ususal running game.  Tommy Emo scored a priceless try and Barry McLaughlin kicked four penalties and a conversion. 22.2.10 In an entertaining, end to end match the Under 21s beat Tullamore in the Gale Cup semi final. Although leading from start to finish the result was not certain until well into the last quarter.  The physical and bigger opposition pack took a long time to wear down but it was the pace and some slick hands of the Wesley backs that were the difference between the two sides. Eoin Gorman, Richie Jermyn and Tommy Emo scored the Wesley tries with Jonny Sargeant kicking two penalties and Richie Jermyn a conversion. The final score 23 : 12. We now meet Mullingar in the final on Sunday 28th February at North Kildare RFC, K.O. 3pm.

21.08.09 Wesley were beaten in the final match of their tour in a tough match against Crusaders in Durban. Experienced prop Robert Dempsey scored our only try, and Marc Geraghty converted, in a tough match where we were beaten 32:7.  This was the third and final match of the tour where we won two and lost one. So Old Wesley did what the Lions couldn't do; we won the test series in South Africa, well ok the tour series.

19.08.09 Wesley maintained a 100% record winning their second tour match against Hamilton Seapoint RFC in Cape Town. Tries came from Nigel Kinlan, Richie Thompson, Brian Doherty, Barry McLoughlin, Ross Johnston and David Smith, with Smith also kicking 5 converts. The final score 40 : 12. The squad will now move on to Durban for their final match against Crusaders.

13.08.09  The Senior Squad departed on their tour to South Africa today where they will play matches against three sides in Cape Town and Durban.
