Old Wesley Senior Tour 2009

A party of 42 Old Wesley players and supporters enjoyed a most successful tour to South Africa in August.  Wesley won two of their matches against Kraaifontein RFC and Hamilton RFC in Cape Town, and lost one to Crusaders RFC in Durban.  So Old Wesley did what the Lions could not achieve; won the test, sorry tour, series in South Africa.

There was some interesting leisure time activities including a trip up Table Mountain, big game viewing, a Zulu night and attendance at a Currie Cup match.  Some of the braver tourists also swam with sharks.  In Durban the tour party was welcomed by former Old Wesley player Gordon Jestin (Boris) who provided excellent hospitality in his pub. They also met up with former Leinster player Emmet O'Rafferty.

Club Captain Phil Hosie led the players on the pitch. Most of the regular senior players, together with a large number of new players made up the playing contingent of the tour party. The tour was managed by former Old Wesley President, Dave Priestman. Current President Gordon McCoy and last year's Division 3 Champions President also travelled.

A more comprehensive report will appear on this site and elsewhere in due course. However no doubt, in keeping with tour tradition, some of the details will remain south of the equator.
